From Operations to Major Projects: Mark Tanner, DP World

Mark Tanner is an Operations Project Manager at DP world, a global logistics company known for its world-class supply chain solutions, port terminal operations, and trade faciliation services. With a presence in over 75 countries, DP world plays a critical role in connecting markets and enabling trade across the globe. Based in the UK, Mark is part of a forward-thinking team that embraces innovation and continuous improvement.

Mark steadily progressed through a range of operational roles before stepping into project management. His appetite for professional development and his commitment to delivering business improvements made the Level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship a perfect next step. Mark worked alongside his Intec tutor, Mandy Christie, to complete the programme while balancing the demands of a busy role at DP World.

Reflecting on his apprenticeship journey, Mark said "I had an incredible experience during my Level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship. The journey has been very positibve and educational. At times it was challenging, but I'm truly grateful for the opporunity to learn and grow under Mandy's guidance." His dedication and resilience have been clear throughout.

The programme has delivered tangible benefits for DP World as well as Mark's career, he explains "The skills and knowledge gained from the apprenticeship have been recognised by, not only my direct line manager, but also senior management in my day to day performance. Towards the end of my apprenticeship it has been clear to me that the business has more confidence in allocating me with full autonomy, solidifying my position within the company and opening up new opportunities for professional growth."

Now a qualified Associate Project Manager, achieving a Merit award, Mark is confidently applying his new skills in his day-to-day work. "I found the experience on the apprenticeship with Intec to be incredibly enriching and transformative. Throughout the programme, I encountered and overcame several barriers, one being able to more deeply understand the scoping requirements within my business and put my education into practice to achieve the details required for success, utilising my new technical skills and adapting to evolving project requirements". His success is a great example of how apprenticeships can support people already in employment through career advancement and contribute positively to both individual growth and business success.
