Blue Monday 2026: A Moment to Reflect and a Reminder of Support for Apprentices

Blue Monday is often described as the third Monday of January, thought to be the lowest point of the year. The idea first appeared in 2005 in a press release from a travel company, which used a formula that combined factors like weather, finances, post-holiday blues, and motivation.
However, experts have consistently highlighted that this concept is not scientifically proven. More importantly, mental health challenges do not happen on just one day. They can affect people at any time and in many ways, depending on individual circumstances.
At Intec, we are committed to creating an environment where apprentices feel supported throughout their learning journey. Our team is trained to:
- Listen without judgement – Sometimes learners just need a confidential space to talk.
- Spot early signs of struggle – Whether a learner seems withdrawn, stressed, anxious, or not themselves, our team can recognise when a check-in might help.
- Provide reassurance and practical guidance – We help apprentices explore what’s affecting them, discuss their concerns, and identify the next steps.
- Connect apprentices with further support – If additional help is needed, such as structured wellbeing support, external services, workplace adjustments, or safeguarding advice; trained Mental Health First Aiders can guide learners quickly and sensitively.
- Encourage an open culture around mental health – By being visible, approachable, and knowledgeable, our team helps reduce stigma and fosters a supportive environment across all programmes.
Research shows that apprentices who receive support during their programme perform just as well as those who do not need it. The inclusive and caring approach of our tutors plays a crucial role in this success.
Blue Monday may serve as a reminder of the importance of mental wellbeing, but at Intec, support for our learners is available every day.
