At intec, we love to celebrate our differences and promote equality & diversity. Every month we compile a list of all the special dates & events from all different religions and faiths around the world, so you can learn more about other cultures and what's improtant to them.
April is
Diversity Month
It was officially designated as Diversity Month in 2004 and aims to help people gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of each other and their differences. To celebrate April's diversity initiatives, consider new ways to integrate diversity into your life. This could involve reflecting on implicit biases and how they impact your judgment of others, or asking questions to build meaningful connections.
April is also:
- Autism Awareness Month
- Stress Awareness Month
- Bowel (Colon) Cancer Awareness Month
- Parkinson's Awareness Month
Autism Awareness Month is a time to increase awarness and understanding of autism, celebrate individuals on the autism spectrum, and provide information about the neurodevelopmental condition, which affects 1 in every 36 children.
Stress Awareness Month has been observed annually since 1992. It serves as an opportunity to open conversations about stress, direct individuals to the right support, and help prioritise mental health.
Bowel (Colon) Cancer Awareness Month highlights the fact that bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK.
Parkinson's Awareness Month aims to raise awareness and deepen understanding of Parkinson's disease, its complexity, and its symptoms.
6th April
International Asexuality day
Observed annually on 6th April, this day raises awareness of asexuality and the broader spectrum of asexual identities, collectively known as grey asexuality or grey-sexuality. Asexuality refers to a lack of sexual attraction to others or a low/absent interest in sexual activity.
7th April
World Health Day
World Health Day marks the founding of the World Health Organisation (WHO). Each year, the WHO selects a key health issue and encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in events that highlight its importance for health and well-being.
8th April
International Romani Day
A day to celebrate Romani culture and promote civil awarness. It is recognised worldwide, particularly in Europe and the Americas, where many Romani people live.
22nd April
Earth Day
Earth Day marks the anniversary of what many consider the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. There are many ways to get involved, such as attending festivals, installing solar panels, organising community events, or adopting eco-friendly habits. 25th April
World Malaria Day
World Malaria Day is an international observance on 25th April, recognising global efforts to control malaria. Worldwide, 3.3 billion people in 106 countries are at risk of malaria. In 2012, malaria caused an estimated 627,000 deaths, mostly among African children.
26th April
Lesbian Visibility day
Lesbian Visibility Day is celebrated annually on 26th April to honour, recognise, and increase the visibility of lesbian members of the LGBTQ+ community. It highlights the importance of representation, especially for those historically overlooked due to being both women and queer.
28th April
World Day for Safety and Health at Work
This awareness-raising campaign promotes the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. It highlights emerging trends in occupational safety and health and the impact of work-related injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.
