Love Your Liver month
The Love Your Liver campaign is a national awareness initiative about liver health by the British Liver Trust – the UK charity for adults with liver conditions.
Dry January
Alcohol Concern’s flagship campaign which has been changing the conversation about alcohol over the past 10 years. Taking part in the campaign is a chance to ditch the hangover, reduce the waistline, and save some serious £££ by giving up alcohol for 31 days.
1st January - New Year’s Day - Hogmanay
A day widely observed throughout the UK, as is New Year’s Eve the preceding night, and especially in Scotland, where bagpipes, haggis and first footing are widespread. It is customary to make New Year’s Resolutions at this time.
4th January is - World Braille Day
It is annually celebrated on January 4, the birthday of Braille inventor, Louis Braille. The day recognises the contributions of Louis Braille in helping blind and visually impaired people to read and write.
19th January - World Religion Day
It was established by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of the United States in 1950 as a way to encourage interfaith understanding.
20th January - Martin Luther King Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an American federal holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is around King's birthday, January 15. The holiday is similar to holidays set under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.
24th January - International Day of Education
The International Day of Education is an annual international observance day held on January 24th each year and is dedicated to education. On December 3rd, 2018, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming January 24th as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for bringing global peace and sustainable development.
25th January - Burns Night
Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, the author of many Scots poems. The suppers are normally held on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January, occasionally known as Robert Burns Day but more commonly known as Burns Night.
26th January - Australia Day
Australia Day is the official National Day of Australia. It is a national public holiday that is celebrated each year on January 26. If January 26 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, Australia Day is celebrated on the following Monday instead.
27th January - HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY (National)
This is a remembrance day for all the different categories of people who suffered at the hands of the Nazis during the second World War (1939-45). It aims to keep fresh in the mind the memory of all those who suffered and died at that period, and to help ensure that no such atrocity happens again. The date was chosen as the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, but for many it is appropriate to remember others who have been victims of subsequent acts of genocide elsewhere in th e world.
28th January - Data Privacy Day
Data Privacy Day occurs every 28 January. The purpose of Data Privacy Day is to raise awareness and promote privacy and data protection best practices. It is currently observed in the United States, Canada, India and 47 European countries.
