1st March

Saint Davids Day

Saint David's Day is the feast day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, and falls on 1st Marchm the date of Saint David's death in 589AD.

Ramadan Begins

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and pray more intensely.


4th March

Shrove Tuesday

On Shrove Tuesday, people in many countries celebrate Carnival, bake pancakes, and prepare themselves for 40 days of fasting before the most important festival in the Christian Church: Easter.


5th March

Ash Wednesday

At the beginning of Lent, on Ash Wednesday, ashes are blessed during Mass after the homily. The blessed ashes are then 'imposed' on the faithful as a sign of conversion, penance, fasting and human mortality.


13th March

Purim (Judaism)

A Jewish holiday which commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman an Achaemenid Persian Empire official who was planning to kill all the Jews.


17th March

St Patrick's Day (Christian)

Saint Patrick's Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the tradtional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland.


20th March

Spring Equinox Ostara - Mabon - Wicca/Pagan, Northern and Southern Hemispheres

The first day of spring is marked by the spring equinox, which falls on March 19 or 20 every year. This date signals spring's beginning in the Northern Hemishphere (whereas it announces fall's arrival in the Southern Hemishpere). The quinox happens at the same moment wordwide, even if our clock times reflect a different time zone.

Naw-Rúz (New Year) - Baha'i

This is the first day of the Baha'i calendar year and one of nine holy days for adherents of the Baha'i faith.


25th - 27th March

Hola Mohalla (Sikh)

Hola Mohalla also called Hola, is a three-day long Sikh festival which normally falls in March. It takes place on the second day of the lunar month of Chett, a day after the Hindu spring festival Holid but sometimes coincides with Holi. Hola Mohalla is a big festive event for Sikhs around the world.


25th March 

Annunciation to the Theotokos (Orthodox Christian)

The feast of the Annunication of Our most Holy lady, the Theotokos and Ever-virgin Mary is celebrated on the 25th of March each year. The feast commemorates the announcement by the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Son of God, would become incarnate and enter into this world through her womb.

Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Catholic Christian)

The Feast of the Annunciation, contemporarily the Solemnity of the Annunciation, also known as Lady Day, the Feast of the Incarnation (Festum Incarnationis) Conceptio Christi (Christ's Conception_, commemorates the visit of the archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary, during which he informed her that she would be the mother of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.


30th March

Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday is a holiday celebrated by Catholic and Protestant Christians in some parts of Europe. It falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Day. Once observed as a day on which people would visit their 'mother' church, it has also become an occasion for honouring the mothers of children and giving them presents.


Eid al-Fitr (Islam)

Eid al-Fitr in 2025 will be celebrated on sundown of Sunday, March 30th ending at sundown on Monday, March 31st. It marks the end of Ramadan (month-long fasting) and the beginning of a feast that breaks the fast.
