We want to empower every individual to unlock their potential through high-impact career development, and we have been bringing this vision to life for the past 40 years by delivering flexible, high-quality learning experiences.
Take the first step in your career with an apprenticeship programme. Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity for you to earn while you learn: Gain an industry recognised apprenticeship standard while developing real world experience.
Data Technicians are essential to the success of modern organisations. They support the collection, processing and analysis of data that drives informed decision making. The Standard is designed for those who work with data on a day to day basis and need a strong practical foundation in handling, reporting and analysis. It is suitable for individuals seeking to develop data handling skills and those entering data focused roles. This Standard builds confidence and competence in the field of data and develops sought after skills that organisations increasingly rely on.
Individuals develop core competencies in data handling, protection, and analysis. They will explore the use of modern technologies and AI tools to streamline processes and produce accurate data and information. The course also covers data protection and governance requirements, combining technical knowledge with practical workplace applications.
The programme covers the use of AI tools and the relationship they have with data, including their impact on data volume and quality. It will also cover prompt engineering principles used for researching data.
On completion, individuals are fully equipped for progression.

Due to the nature of this programme it is delivered entirely remote and as part of a cohort. Cohorts for this programme are released bi-monthly. Learners in a cohort will also be given individual time with a tutor whilst on programme.
Learners will meet with their tutor once a month for the knowledge-based part of the programme. Between sessions, assignments will be set and completed through our online platform, Smart Assessor. Every 12 weeks a progress review will take place, which line manager should attend, to discuss progress on programme.
Learners must be able to commit to the programme, have the support of your employer and your job role must align with the programme requirements to demonstrate the competencies needed to pass the End Point Assessment.
Employers enrolling learners can set their own entry criteria but to be eligible for funding learners must:
After the learning phase is completed, the learner, employer, and Intec will meet to determine if you are ready to proceed to the End Point Assessment (EPA). The EPA, conducted by an external End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO), will evaluate whether you have demonstrated the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours to meet the required standards. Learners can achieve a Pass or Distinction based on their performance.
The EPA has two parts:
| Duration | Details | Weighting | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scenario demonstration with questioning | 90 minutes | The scenario demonstration will allow the apprentice to be presented with scenarios that cover the breadth and depth of practice required and will avoid situations where occupational activities are not available or do not occur. | 50% |
| Professional discussion and portfolio of evidence | 60 minutes | The assessor and the apprentice will have a formal two-way conversation. It will consist of the independent assessor asking the apprentice questions to assess their competence against the knowledge, skills and behaviours. | 50% |
Progression: Depending on their job role, learners may want to consider applying for the Data Analyst, Associate Project Manager, or Improvement Practitioner programmes.
