Intec Business Colleges Ltd is fully committed to achieving its Net Zero emissions by 2045 for emissions scopes 1, 2 and 3. As an apprenticeship training provider, we recognise our responsibility to minimise our carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Baseline Emissions

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Key milestones

We have set clear milestones for our Net Zero journey:

  • Short-term (by 2027): Reduce business travel emissions from 37.18 (2023 baseline)  tCO2e by 30% through digital-first training and green travel policies. Ensure Apprenticeship curriculums include environmental responsibility associated to the learners industry sector.
  • Medium-term (by 2035):
    •  Further enhance energy efficiency and minimising resource waste and a focus on how we action the end of life resources we use.
    • Achieving a further 50% reduction in our operational carbon footprint
  • Long-term (by 2045): Reach Net Zero in scope 1,2 and 3 by investing in sustainable infrastructure and continually improving our environmental policies.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Short term and medium term milestones will be achieved through:

  • The introduction of new software for learner onboarding. This will be done in 2025 and reduce the volume of waste and storage of documentation.
  • The expansion of remote based delivery impacting the requirement to travel for face to face meetings.
  • The move to a fully cloud based IT systems in 2025 therefore minimising any on premises servers.
  • Waste reduction, we continue to recycle all paper related waste and move to a paperless office in 2026. We will increase the volume of electrical waste recycling include mobile devices and laptops.
  • A review of company fleet vehicles will be undertaken in 2025.

Reporting

Reporting will be completed annually in January each year.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

We actively review and enhance our sustainability strategy to align with the latest best practices on Net Zero goals. By embedding sustainability into our apprenticeship programmes, we also educate learners on the importance of environmental responsibility within their respective industries.

Through these efforts, we aim to support other organisations achieving a greener future while maintaining the highest standards of apprenticeship training.

Declaration and Sign off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard  and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting .

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the Senior Management Team.

Additionally this plan should be reviewed alongside Intec’s social values, EDI, Safeguarding and Prevent Policies as well as our Self-Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan.
