Intec Business Colleges has been inspected by Ofsted, who are responsible for reporting on a provider’s performance, quality and standards. Intec, founded in 1982, is one of the UK’s leading work based training organisations delivering Apprenticeship programmes throughout the country and has its headquarters in Rugby, Warwickshire.
The inspection was conducted at short notice, two working days and involved two of Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) plus five additional inspectors over a five day period.
The Ofsted inspectors visited, interviewed and surveyed over 30 employers; over 300 learners and 38 members of staff.
The inspectors reported on four areas – Overall Effectiveness, Outcomes for Learners, Quality of Teaching, Learning & Assessment and the Effectiveness of Leadership & Management as follows:
“Overall success rates for apprentices are above the national average and have remained so for the last three years with the majority completing early or within their planned timescales”.
“Teaching, Learning & Assessment are good; Assessors have high expectations of their learners and are skilled at engaging and motivating learners. Comprehensive and in some cases outstanding assessment planning supports learners good progress and achievement. Learners produce an exceptionally high standard of workplace evidence based around improvements to business and reflecting their increased skill levels and performance in the workplace”.
“Assessors have highly productive relationships with employers and have extensive and varied experience in all aspects of business administration, management and customer service”.
“Leadership is strong, decisive and leads to improvements in the provision for learners, performance management is very good and has a strong focus on improving success rates and the quality of teaching, learning & assessment”.
“Staff are well qualified and experienced and staff development is good”.
“Partnership arrangements with employers are highly effective, employers find Intec responsive and value the time they take to understand their business and flexibility of arrangements to suit both learners’ and employers’ needs”.
In conclusion the inspectors judged all of the areas inspected to be Good, Grade 2.
John Herman, Intec’s Chief Executive Officer, commented “For the moment, let us be pleased with the judgement Ofsted have reached and feel confident that our work is having a positive impact on all of our customers’ ambitions. However, there is no room for complacency and there is always room for improvement, therefore, over the coming months and years we will continue to work on the things we can do better”.
